Job Description – EHS Manager
Position Overview:
The EHS Manager provides on-site leadership and oversight for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions on large-scale electrical construction projects. This role ensures compliance with corporate EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and General Contractor/Owner safety expectations.
Serving as the primary site resource for implementing and sustaining Hays Electrical Services’ EHS programs, the EHS Manager drives hazard identification, risk mitigation, incident prevention, and continuous improvement. Through collaboration with leadership and project teams, this role fosters a proactive safety culture and ensures work is performed safely and in accordance with corporate and regulatory standards, including those established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to travel to project sites as required.
Work Environment
This position requires an active presence on construction sites. Candidates must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; navigate uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders; and perform bending, kneeling, and reaching activities. The role may require lifting and carrying materials weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. Sufficient visual acuity is required to read plans and documents and to inspect work activities and surrounding conditions. Work may occur outdoors for significant portions of the day, in varying weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and typical construction-site hazards. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all EHS programs on assigned large-scale electrical construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1926, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Partner with project management, field supervision, and craft personnel to implement and maintain effective hazard identification, risk mitigation, and safe work practices.
- Direct and conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, verify compliance, and drive corrective actions.
- Oversee development and maintenance of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other safety documentation to define safe work practices and support project execution.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety stand downs, ongoing safety training, and project orientations for employees and subcontractors.
- Ensure prompt reporting and investigation of incidents, near misses, and other events; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with high-risk work activities including lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, confined space entry, and other critical operations.
- Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, inspection logs, training documentation, and other regulatory or project-required records.
- Coordinate with General Contractors, Owners, and project stakeholders to meet project-specific safety expectations and lead the safety portion of project meetings.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to field supervisors, craftworkers, and EHS employees to reinforce safe work practices and strengthen the company’s safety culture.
- Lead the implementation of corporate EHS initiatives, policies, and improvement programs across the project.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
- 5–10+ years of experience in construction safety, environmental health, or occupational safety roles.
- 3+ years in a leadership or site safety management role on large construction or industrial projects.
- Experience working on large-scale electrical, commercial, or industrial construction projects preferred.
- Experience in Mission-critical/data-center environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, and energy control (LOTO) programs.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing safety programs in compliance with federal and regulations.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
- OSHA 500 – Construction Outreach Trainer
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
- Competent Person (Fall protection, Confined space, Excavation, etc.)
- OSHA 30-Hour – Construction.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Training.
- Strong Leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strategic oversight and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence safe behaviors and reinforce company safety expectations
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and personnel
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
