Position Overview
Hays Electrical Services is seeking a high-performing Director of Training to lead the development, deployment, and governance of all non-craft corporate training programs across Safety (EHS), Quality, Commissioning, Energy-Control (NFPA 70E & LOTO), and Incident Reporting/Investigation.
The Director of Training is a core contributor to the Operational Assurance Division, aligning training governance with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, client expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and administer the Operational Assurance Training Framework for EHS, Quality, Commissioning, Energy-Control, and Incident Management.
- Maintain governance over training content, version control, scheduling, instructor qualifications, and documentation.
- Update and manage the Operational Assurance Training Matrix, capturing all mandatory training across regulatory and internal requirements.
- Create structured training content including digital modules, PowerPoint presentations, instructor-led curriculum, and scenario-based workshops.
- Develop standardized programs for:
- OSHA 1910/1926 and corporate safety systems
- Quality standards for electrical installation (NECA/NEMA/NFPA/ANSI/NETA)
- Commissioning and system turnover training
- NFPA 70E Arc Flash electrical safety
- Corporate LOTO/energy-control procedures
- Equipment operation and safety for powered industrial equipment
- Incident reporting, investigation, and root-cause analysis
- Deliver enterprise-wide training across all Operational Assurance disciplines, including safety, quality, commissioning, energy-control, and incident management.
- Conduct equipment training and operator evaluations for MEWPs, forklifts, telehandlers, skid steers, excavators, and other powered industrial equipment, ensuring competency validation and authorization in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, and manufacturer requirements.
- Administer practical evaluations, performance assessments, and requalification activities to ensure operators maintain proficiency and compliance.
- Coordinate enterprise-wide delivery of mandatory training requirements across all regions and project sites.
- Establish and manage third-party training partnerships to support remote or high-volume equipment training needs outside Houston.
- Build, qualify, and oversee an internal instructor/SME network to scale training capability and ensure consistency across all business units.
- Oversee the integration and management of training records for EHS, Quality, Commissioning, Energy-Control, and Equipment Operation programs.
- Ensure documentation meets internal, regulatory, client, and audit requirements, including legal defensibility standards.
- Conduct periodic compliance audits to verify training execution, record completeness, and instructor performance.
- Analyze incident trends, quality escapes, audit findings, and operational data to drive targeted training improvements.
- Collaborate with EHS, Quality, Operations, HR, and Commissioning leaders to ensure training reflects current risks, lessons learned, and business needs.
- Benchmark and apply industry best practices to maintain a modern, scalable, and proactive Operational Assurance training platform.
- 7–10 years of experience in training management, EHS/QC leadership, operational excellence, or similar roles within electrical construction or construction environments.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards, NFPA 70E, LOTO, and equipment operation requirements.
- Demonstrated experience conducting training and formal operator evaluations for powered industrial and construction equipment.
- Experience facilitating training for cross-functional and field-based personnel.
- Understanding of commissioning processes, quality assurance systems, and incident investigation methodologies.
- Experience in managing training records, LMS platforms, or digital learning systems.
- Ability to develop and implement enterprise-wide training programs across multiple disciplines.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to deliver training and conduct evaluations fluently in both languages.
- Bachelor’s degree in education/training, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Certifications such as OSHA Outreach Trainer, NFPA 70E Trainer, MEWP/Forklift Evaluator, CQM/CQA, ISO Lead Auditor, TapRooT/5-Why Investigation, or Instructional Design credentials.
